Sardes, the capital of Lydia, is known as one of the Seven Churches of the Book of Revelations but also as the first place where "standard money coins" have been emitted.
Furthermore, with its magnificent synagogue, it is accounted in the Jewish Heritage.
We'll begin with a visit to Sardes and the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, the remains of the Byzantine Church, and the site of ancient marketplace or Agora.
As you stroll along the kingsway, you will see the remains one of the oldest Synagogues in Asia Minor and the wonderfully restored fecade of the Gymnasium.
Enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant in Alasehir.
When you return to Izmir, you will visit the Kemeralti Market area, where you will see the Kizlaragasi Han – The Ottoman Inn, a fine example of the architecture from the 18th century. Browse through the narrow streets and enjoy some shopping before returning to your hotel.
