After departure from our hotel, we will drive along the coast to Bergama, home of two renown archaeological sites : the Acropolis with its temples and theater (steepest ever built) and the Asklepion, a therapeutic center.
Both sites are listed among the top 100 historical sites on the Mediterranean.
Some of the extraordinary buildings and monuments in Bergama date from the time of Eumenes II (2nd century BC) and we will visit – among others – the famous library, the terrace of the hill sided theater, the main palace, the altar of Zeus and the propylaeum of the temple of Athena.
In the early Christian era, Pergamon’s church (community) was a major center of Christianity and was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation.
The city is composed of three main parts : the Acropolis functioning as a social, cultural and religious center; the lower city or realm of the lower classes; the Asklepion, one of the earliest medical centers on record.
At the end of the tour, return to your hotel.
